College Council Awards
The Human Ecology College Council invites students to nominate outstanding peers and faculty members for recognition during the academic year. The College Council developed the awards to recognize undergraduate students, graduate students and faculty who go above and beyond in their commitment to the College of Human Ecology, Kansas State University and the community.
This award is given monthly to one male and one female student. The College Council accepts nominations from peers and faculty members for any student who is properly enrolled in the College of Human Ecology.
The College of Human Ecology Council welcomes nominations for the "Student of the Month" in the College of Human Ecology. We need your help nominating students you think would be a great candidate. The council will choose one male and one female each month and put them on the website, as well as the College of Human Ecology's Twitter and Facebook pages. If you think someone would be a great student of the month please email Dr. Shawna Jordan, faculty advisor, at jordan@k-state.edu with their name and why you think they should be student of the month. Please be sure to place "Student of the Month" in the subject line.
All nominations should include information that can answer the following questions:
- How you know this student and in what capacity?
- What activities or leadership positions are they involved in?
- What unique characteristics does this candidate have?
- What makes this candidate stand out to you?
Outstanding Service Project Award
The purpose of this award is to recognize a Human Ecology student's significant contribution to humanity, Kansas State University and his or her philanthropy of choice. This student is seen as a trailblazer by fulfilling a need for service in the community.
Criteria:
- Contributions and leadership in community affairs, organizations and service groups
- Created or participated in implementation of an innovative service project
- Contributions to Human Ecology-related issues in the community at large as an elected, appointed, or volunteer leader, including service to organizations and programs such as state legislature, U.S. Congress, labor relations, food and environmental safety, and social welfare
Submit a statement describing your service plan and two references. Applicants will then be interviewed by a panel to further explain their commitment to service.

Faculty of the Year Award
This award recognizes a faculty member in the College of Human Ecology who has gone above and beyond to assist students.
Please write 150 words or less on why you think your faculty member should be awarded this honor. Include specific examples of when this faculty member has gone above and beyond their required responsibilities.
Please submit the application materials to the College of Human Ecology dean's office in 119 Justin Hall.
Graduate Teaching Assistant of the Year Award
This award recognizes a graduate teaching assistant (GTA) in the College of Human Ecology who has gone above and beyond to assist students.
Please write 150 words or less on why you think a graduate teaching assistant should be awarded this honor. Include specific examples of when they have gone above and beyond their required responsibilities.
Please submit the completed nomination to the College of Human Ecology dean's office in 119 Justin Hall.
Unsung Hero Award
This award recognizes the accomplishments of a student who helps their peers achieve success in ways that may not be measured in grades, but more about placing value on characteristics that are often undervalued. This student makes a significant contribution to their college community by going above and beyond to help a fellow student. Caring, ethical, humble and positive; this individual serves as an inspiration to fellow students. Recipients will be College of Human Ecology students who have best demonstrated our motto, "In a world focused on things, we focus first on PEOPLE."
Criteria:
- Student in the College of Human Ecology
- Evidence of significant impact on individuals by volunteering, mentoring, tutoring, or other instances where an individual lends a helping hand to a fellow student
- Demonstrates efforts to improve conditions in the community, particularly those utilizing human ecology-related skills
Submit a statement (200 words or less) that describes how the nominee meets the above criteria.
