Financial Counseling Minor

Financial counseling helps families understand how to manage limited resources to build a strong financial foundation. The financial counseling minor provides students with an overview of the content needed to serve as a financial counselor. This minor meets the educational requirements for students who want to earn the Accredited Financial Counselor® designation.

This minor is a perfect complement for these majors:

  • Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher Licensure Program
  • Finance
  • Integrative Human Sciences
  • Human Development and Family Science
  • Social Work
  • Sociology

Program Requirements

Fifteen credits - twelve hours of core content and three hours of specified electives - are required to complete the Financial Counseling Minor. At least nine credit hours must be completed at Kansas State University. Students must achieve a cumulative 2.50 GPA in the courses counting toward their minor to complete the program.

Enrolling in the Minor

There are no entrance requirements to enroll in the minor. However, several of the individual courses do require a minimum of a 2.5 GPA as part of their prerequisites.
