Department of Kinesiology Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded based on the following general criteria:

  1. GPA – Minimum cumulative of 3.2
  2. Departmental leadership and service
  3. Other leadership and service
  4. Specific criteria as specified by scholarship

Endowed Scholarships:

A. The Department of Kinesiology -Ice Family Scholarship is one $2,000 scholarship awarded annually to a Kinesiology major that has applied for department scholarships through the financial aid website. The recipient is selected by the Kinesiology department scholarship committee and it based on merit and need. Kinesiology majors that have at least a 3.4 cumulative GPA are eligible to apply. The annual university scholarship application deadline of Feb 1st applies for this scholarship.

B. Pauline Compton Scholarship - established and supported by the family members of Pauline Compton in 1982. She was the “matron” in the womens’ gym for 20 years. A single parent, she put five daughters through college. This award is given to a female junior or senior majoring in kinesiology each year.

C. Eva Lyman Scholarship - established and supported by family and friends of Eva Lyman, in 1971. Eva Lyman is a former professor in physical education. She taught at KSU from 1943 until her death in 1967. This award is given each year to a female sophomore or junior majoring in kinesiology.

D. Barbara Moses Scholarship - established and supported by the family of Barbara Moses in 1980. Barbara Moses was a teacher/coach at Chapman H.S. and died of Leukemia while very young. The award is given each year to an undergraduate female majoring in kinesiology with preference given to an active participant of a K-State athletic team.

E. Ito Family Scholarship - established and supported by the family of Nobuyoshi Ito from Aichi, Japan in 1979 after completing a sabbatical leave here. The award is given each year to a sophomore or junior majoring in kinesiology.

F. Larry Noble Fitness Promotion Scholarship – established and supported by Larry Noble in 2005. The award is given each year to a junior or senior in kinesiology planning a career in physical fitness and health promotion.

G. Darlene J. Meisner Peniston Memorial Scholarship - established and supported by Francis L. Peniston, the husband of Darlene J Meisner Peniston, a former student, in 2007. This award is given each year to an undergraduate female majoring in kinesiology with an interest in swimming.

H. Dr. Kenneth D. Mosely Scholarship - established and supported by alumnus, Kenneth Mosely of Orangeburg, S.C. in 2010. This award is given each year to undergraduates majoring in Kinesiology.

I. Katherine Horridge Smith - Female sophomore or junior with financial need. Volunteer activity at the university or in her community required.

J. Mary Lois Rynders Sykes Scholarship - established and supported by Roy Sykes, the husband of Mary Lois Rynders, a former student, in 1983. The award is given each year to an undergraduate majoring in kinesiology.

Departmental Scholarships:

K. Department of Kinesiology Scholarship - Kinesiology student demonstrating outstanding academic performance, research expertise, leadership, service, and departmental involvement.
