Principal Investigator:

Denver Brown, PhD

Denver BrownDenver Brown is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Kansas State University. He oversees the INCH Lab at K-State. Denver has formal training in Kinesiology with an emphasis on health and exercise psychology. Dr. Brown graduated from the HonBScKin, MSc, and PhD programs in the Department of Kinesiology at McMaster University (Hamilton, Canada). After completing his PhD, he spent two years as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Mental Health and Physical Activity Research Centre at the University of Toronto and one year as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University. Denver is currently an editorial board member of Mental Health & Physical Activity, Journal of Physical Activity and Health, BMC Medicine, Journal of Activity, Sedentary and Sleep Behaviors, and Sport, Exercise and Performance Psychology, and a review editor for Frontiers in Psychology (Health Psychology Section), and Frontiers in Sports and Active Living (Sport Psychology Section).”

Current trainees:

Carah Porter

Carah PorterCarah Porter is a doctoral student in the Kinesiology department at Kansas State University. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Ohio Northern University and a master’s degree in psychology from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Carah’s research centers around understanding how post-intentional processes, specifically physical activity identity, are associated with the adoption and maintenance of physical activity behavior. In her free time, she enjoys cycling or hiking with her two golden retrievers.

 

Claire Groves

Claier GrovesClaire Groves is a third year Ph.D student in psychology at UTSA. She completed her M.A in psychology at Northern Arizona University. Her research interests include how movement behaviors (i.e., physical activity, sedentary behavior, sleep) influence both positive and negative aspects of mental health as well as examining how different factors impact engagement in healthy behaviors. Outside of research, Claire enjoys running, playing soccer, and reading. She can be reached at claire.groves@utsa.edu
