School Sports and Athletics
This section of the Physical Activity Resource Guide provides information regarding the available physical activity opportunities within the school system:
School sport opportunities become available in middle school (there are no organized athletics in the elementary schools) and continue through high school.
-
School sports provide an excellent opportunity for children and young adults to participate in structured physical activity within a supervised setting.
-
Numerous health benefits can be achieved as a result of increased physical activity levels in children and young adults.
-
These health benefits have been shown to stay with children and adolescents as they enter adulthood and throughout their lives.
-
The information below is intended to raise awareness regarding the availability of different types of school sports and recreational facilities available at the various middle and high schools in Manhattan.
-
If you have a child interested in participating in a specific athletic program or are interest in utilizing the recreational facilities available, it is recommended that you contact the schools using the information provided to gather additional information regarding the availability of practice facilities and information specific to the athletic program of interest such as coaches & staff, etc.
