Firefighter Gear Design and Fit for Females

Dr. Wu is part of a multi- year study to improve the design and fit of firefighter gear for females in underserved environments. Female's gear is often unsafe due to unisex sizing that doesn't fit properly. The fit of the helmet, especially for those with ethnic hairstyles, is currently unsafe. They often have to conform their hair to the limitations of the gear. Developing innovative design solutions to these issues will better serve communities and the people protecting them.
