Culture-Change in Care
Dr. Kaup’s paper explores how long-term care facilities residents often need more complex care than just medical treatment, and that the facilities must shift to a more patient-centered approach. The system of “interdependency” that such shifts create would enhance quality of life for both the staff and the residents.
However, Dr. Kaup also found and discusses how the symbiotic relationships between the government and these long-term care settings often makes such beneficial changes difficult or undesirable.
