The Context of Community

A team of interior design students won second place in the IDECF 2022 Video Competition with their submission that focused on how community-based systems support well-being.

Third-year students Nhat-Quynh Pham, Margaret Ahearn, and Ciara Hovis were advised by Dr. Kaup in their research that focused on how interior designers can use their systems of design to create environments that support community building. The team found that the combination of accessibility, wayfinding, and sustainability will best uplift and affirm all community members. By designing in a way that responds to each community’s unique system, designers can create institutions that will be long lasting and entirely beneficial.
