During her time at Kansas State University studying apparel design, Carmen worked on campus at the Institute for Environmental Research where she grounded herself in the science behind design. She also completed an extended internship at Lands' End in Wisconsin focused on textiles outerwear design for men's, women's and kids. After graduation, she moved to New York City where she designed for outerwear licensee Winlit Group that included leather and textile outerwear collections for Tommy Hilfiger, Guess, Pacific Trail, London Fog, and department store private labels. Also while in New York, Carmen worked at her dream design company, Ralph Lauren, where she designed for the luxury performance collection RLX.
Over the years Carmen has dabbled in extended studies at the Fashion Institute of Technology as well as the University of Delaware, focused on graduate courses in socially responsible and sustainable apparel business.
Carmen now resides in Portland, Oregon, and is a designer for Nike. Her work keeps her traveling around the world for inspiration as well as a lot of hands-on designing at fabric mills and garment factories.
