2018 Symposium
The 2018 keynote speaker, Melea McRae, founder and CEO of Crux KC, a multidisciplinary marketing firm. Her lecture entitled "Get to the Crux of You...your personal brand: who you are, how you present yourself, how you build your networks to succeed in your career," was held at 10:00 am.m Friday, April 13, 2018, in the K-State Alumni Center.
The lecture was part of a day-long event including a networking luncheon, professional development, panel discussions, and networking sessions for students, professionals and alumni. Students interacted with advisory board members and professionals from the interior design program and the apparel and textiles program.
On Thursday, April 12, 2018 the ATID Student Symposium opened with the 5th Annual ATID Showcase of Excellence. This event included a mounted exhibit and a live runway show featuring work from K-State students and Kansas secondary education students. The showcase was held at the McCain Auditorium in Manhattan, Kansas. A total of one approximately two hundred entries including those of secondary education students. There were a total of one hundred twenty entries accepted into the show. In response to the symposium theme, "GET TO THE CRUX," awards were granted in the following categories: Inspired by Janet Rees (pdf), K-State Upper Division (junior and senior) and Graduate, K-State Lower Division (freshman and sophomore) and middle/high school students.
This event was a great opportunity for current and prospective students to meet alumni, professionals and faculty within in the apparel and textiles and interior design industries. It provided students the opportunity to express their creativity and highlight their work at a prestigious, annual event.
