Professional Biography

Karla Girard serves as the coordinator for the online dietetics program. Her duties include responding to inquiries about the distance program, reviewing transcripts, corresponding with advisees from all over the world and mapping out articulation agreements with other schools.

In May 2006, she was honored with the first Excellence in Distance Academic Advising Award from K-State's Division of Continuing Education. She believes it is important for students to have that one contact person to help give them direction. Distance students often are unaware of resources available to them or where to find them, and Girard wants to help make them feel as much a part of Kansas State University as those students who attend on campus. She says the most meaningful part of her job is getting to know the students and meeting them at commencement.
