2023 Recipient:
Gwen Morgan ‘07
Gwen Morgan is the global discipline leader for interior design at Stantec, providing leadership in design and technical excellence for a worldwide team of interior designers.
Morgan graduated from Kansas State in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in interior design and a minor in business. After graduation, she moved to Texas to join the design firm SHW Group, where she learned the craft of designing educational spaces, including both K-12 and higher education environments. She also led one of the firm’s research and benchmarking teams, studying how the interior environment can be a tool to support student engagement.
In 2015, SHW Group was acquired by Stantec and shortly thereafter Morgan was promoted to the discipline leader position and named a senior principal in the firm. Under her leadership, Stantec became the first design firm to sponsor the Interior Design Educators Council and offer a partnership grant that encourages interior design educators, students and practitioners to collaborate on research.
Morgan has been involved in the design community through IIDA, ASID, the ACE mentorship program and the Dallas AIA Emerging Leaders program; she also serves her local community as a board member of the Allen Food Pantry.
Morgan lives with her husband Jesse, their three children and her cat in Plano, Texas.
