2017 Recipient: Tamara Markham
Tamara Markham is senior area director of operations, the Americas, Marriott International, Inc. in Bethesda, Maryland. She is part of the continent lodging services team, which provides support to area vice presidents and area directors of operations teams. Thirty-one full service properties in the Southeast are part of her responsibility.
A hospitality career with Marriott began for Markham following a summer internship program at the Overland Park Marriott in Kansas. She has held many on-property positions, including general manager. Markham also spent time at Hotel Equities, Inc. where she held numerous roles, including vice president of operations. She has two daughters, Lexi and Sophie.
Markham graduated from K-State in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in hotel and restaurant management.
The Department of Hospitality Management is hosting Markham for her return to K-State April 19-21. Markham’s collegewide presentation is Thursday, April 20, from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in 163 Justin Hall. She will be lending students and faculty her expertise in the lodging industry with her presentation titled “Global Hospitality and the Creation of the World’s Largest Travel Company.”
