Post-Secondary Members
All STAR Events participants must be nationally affiliated members of FCCLA. Dues must be postmarked by March 1 and sent to state Headquarters for participants to be eligible for national STAR Events competition. Local advisers, post-secondary or state adviser, are responsible for verification of membership and must bring a copy of the chapter affiliation highlighting each member’s name to the event.
Members are subject to Kansas FCCLA Code of Conduct.
BENEFITS
- Attend and participate in all local, district, state, and national meetings, activities and projects.
- Compete in National STAR Events – Students Taking Action with Recognition in the areas of Advocacy, Culinary Arts, Early Childhood, Teach and Train, Fashion Design and Interior Design.
- Participate in events designed for FCCLA members but sponsored by other groups
- Eligible for Newcomers Scholarship towards one National Cluster Meeting Registration for Family and Consumer Sciences majors.

Post-Secondary STAR Events

- Advocacy – an individual or team event recognizing participants who demonstrate their
knowledge, skills, and ability to actively identify a local,state, national, or global concern,
research the topic, identify a target audience and potential partnerships, form an action plan, and advocate for the issue in an effort to positively affect a policy or law. - Culinary Arts – a team event recognizing participants enrolled in occupational culinary arts/food service training programs for their ability to work as members of a team to produce a quality meal using industrial culinary arts/food service techniques and equipment.
- Early Childhood – an individual event recognizing participants who demonstrate their ability to use knowledge and skills gained from their enrollment in an early childhood program. Participants must prepare a portfolio and a resource container. On site, participants must plan and present to evaluators an activity related to the theme in response to a case study provided during the event and an oral presentation describing the activity.
- Fashion Design – an individual event recognizes participants who apply fashion design skills learned in Family and Consumer Sciences coursesto design and market clothing styles.
- Interior Design – and individual or team event recognizes participants who apply interior design skills learned in Family and Consumer Sciences coursesto design interiors to meet the living space needs of clients.
- Teach and Train – an individual event recognizing participants for their exploration of the education and training fields through research and hands‐on experience.
