How to Apply
- Visit with Taylor Williams, our Undergraduate Advisor and/or Michelle Toews, our Graduate Program Coordinator to confirm your eligibility.
- Visit with your financial aid advisor to see if there are any financial aid ramifications.
- Visit with your undergraduate advisor to select classes that may be used for both programs AND have not been taken in the undergraduate curriculum.
- Have your undergraduate advisor send an email to the graduate program advisor indicating support for the student in the B.S./M.S. Accelerated Program and identifying the classes to be used for both degrees and when they will be taken.
- Apply to the Graduate School and select B.S./M.S. HDFS specialization in Prevention Science program on the application. *
- If you are admitted, enroll in the agreed upon shared graduate classes under your graduate record in KSIS. You must continue to maintain a 3.0 GPA.**
- Upon your successful completion of your B.S., you will be fully admitted to the Graduate School and the M.S. HDFS specialization in Prevention Science Program.***
- Once you complete 9 graduate credit hours, a program of study will be prepared in conjunction with your M.S. major professor and submitted to the Graduate School.****
Notes:
* Application Checklist: Students applying for the accelerated program are only required to include a personal statement and the application fee. Your personal statement should include your motivation for pursuing a graduate degree, career goals, research interests (if applicable), the track you are interested in pursuing (see available tracks), the faculty member(s) with whom you are interested in working, and any additional pertinent information you would like to share about your personal, academic, and/or professional experiences.
** Special Enrollment Form: The student may take the approved shared courses for graduate credit by contacting the Graduate School and making a special enrollment access request. This request must be made before rosters are released and grades have been assigned. There are no exceptions to this and the Graduate School will not move classes between the undergraduate and graduate records in KSIS once the class roster has been closed and a grade has been assigned.
*** Change in Status: The student's status will change from undergraduate to graduate once the student is formally admitted to the program with the start semester listed on the Graduate Application. Taking courses for graduate credit using the Special Enrollment Form starts their graduate career/record, but their status remains undergraduate and their admission to the graduate program is provisional until the student completes the BS degree requirements.
*** Program of Study: All credits listed on the Program of Study cannot be older than 7 years.
