Public Health
Our Program
The public health program focuses on teaching students the science of protecting and improving the health of people and communities by promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors, studying chronic disease and injury prevention, developing disaster preparedness plans, and detecting, preventing and responding to infectious diseases. Our students are equipped with a strong foundation for careers in public health as well as other health related fields. The program includes a core set of fundamental public health courses, research and health promotion practice methods courses, a three-course practicum experience and capstone series, and a variety of public health electives. The program is designed to give students the flexibility to choose additional coursework electives to tailor the degree to specific interests or meet the needs of a health professional school, such as medicine, nursing or physical therapy. As a collaborative degree, courses are offered across multiple departments and colleges, exposing student to a breadth of public health topic areas and providing a comprehensive education in the field.
